Ahmed Nawar is from Cairo, Egypt. He gained a BFA in Graphic Design from Helwan University in 1967 and a degree in graphics and murals from the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid. Nawar’s work is diverse and speaks of ancient roots with a direct reference to Egypt’s iconic symbol, the pyramid. He combines geometric and organic elements by integrating the static and the dynamic. These sculptures are based on one of a series of works presented by Jabal Abu Ghneim, referring to the story of the mountain, which was attacked by the Israeli occupiers with tanks and missilesHouses were demolished, olive trees and fruit fields uprooted and everything that was alive, executed. It is considered an illegal Israeli settlement by much of the world. This artwork is made up of three resin sculptures in three different colors: frosty pink, a solid, chalky white and a smooth, soft black. The different colors represent the different shades the sun would cast on a mountain; white during the day, pink at sunset, and black at night. In Jabal Abu Ghneim, Nawar is addressing regional connections and the rights of existence for Palestinians.
